Finding Westley
Two and half weeks ago, on Saturday, August 24th, I was preparing to give Westley a bath. I used one of my least favorite leashes, those retractable/extension kind, that someone gave us years ago. I just grabbed the closest one and we were not actually going for a walk. I really didn't put any thought into it. I took Westey out to the front yard and put the handle of the lease under a front porch chair leg to quickly go turn the water on to the hose. As I was walking away, he jerked on the leash to follow me and pulled the chair over. This scared him, and he skirted off a few feet to get away from the falling and clanging chair. As he did, it must have hit the button that locked the leash from extending or retracting and then as it let go, it retracted sharply toward Westley, hitting him in the face. That all happened in 2 sec, but it thoroughly scared the _____ (fill in the blank) out of him, and he took off down the street faster than I have ever seen him run. To add salt to injury, the handle of the leash follow behind him clanging on the street loudly and wildly. I imagine he thought something or someone was like chasing him. Poor dog!
